Yellowstone

Just a couple of quick shots of Yellowstone Park.

It was a cloudy drizzly day,  no blue sky and no prominent shadows.

Still waters were still nice and reflective.

I was just passing through on this day last month.

Sheepherder camp

Just a some miscellaneous stuff from around here in Idaho.

Like the new and modern sheepherder camps, they still are very small and rugged to be pulled to almost any spot on the range with miniumal effort.  But please notice the modern convienence of a television antenna.

Some deers, just laying around the tall grass next to the road on the way to Sharkeys Hot springs.
(over by Tendoy, ID)

A nice refective water puddle, (pond) up around Cranes Flat Road not far from Blackfoot Reservoir.

Not a good Ger

Out for an afternoon drive, between Lone Pine and Gilmore, Idaho.

When I saw this 'not so good' Ger along the side of the road.

It is quite rare to get a Badger to stand still and pose for a a couple of pictures. For some reason they seem to think humans are likely to shoot them.

I managed to get three pictures before he zipped down the Badger hole.

LA AR

Last month, some leftover pictures from Louisiana and Arkansas.

From Shreveport, Louisiana to Texarkana, Arkansas.

The entire area was very waterlogged, due to heavy rains past two days.

Some areas were flooded.

Of course the skies were overcast and dreary.

Arizona, stuff

Following US 93 from Hoover Dam to Phoenix, Arizona, last month.

A bridge across one of the numerous washes, dry creek beds, or even a river.

I forgot to write down which creek or river this was,  It may have been the Big Sandy.

The cattle in this region of the world all seem to be quite scrawny, not really ideal grazing country.  But not good for anything else either.

Wyoming two months ago

On US 20 from Cody Wyoming to the east gate of Yellowstone National Park.

The Buffalo Bill reservoir on the North and South forks of the  Shoshone River.  Apparently the Dam in just below where the two forks joined.

Along the North Fork of the Shoshone River.

Sure are a lot of dead trees around here.

Texas, last month

Some more of last month's trip.

This was taken near Langtry, Texas.  On the other side of this river is Mexico.

Some of the colorful vegetation in the area.

This is where the Pecos River joins the Rio Grande and the Amistad Reservoir.  The far bank is Mexico.

Sunday Drive

It was such a nice day today, not counting the wind, that I took a Sunday drive.

So out to the desert I go.

And up to the top of the Big Butte.

I like to drive up there at least once a year, even though it is a really rough and rocky road.

Up on top the mountain had a cloud cap for part of the time I was up there.  A cloud cap is formed when the wind forces the air over the top at just the right atmosphereic conditions.

In between wisps of the cloud cap, you can see a long way, from up past Idaho Falls to down below American falls, and over to Arco.

One thing you know, if there is a cloud cap, it is cold and very windy up there.  Of course the cloud cap blew away just as soon as I left the top, which is at 7560 feet. about 3000 feet higher than here at Blackfoot.

Oklahoma, last month

In the far South East corner of Oklahoma, on a cloudy rainy day, limited visibility so there was not a lot to see.

Lots of brushy vegetation, over slightly rolling terrain.

Rivers running with almost red muddy waters.

I don't think I ever did see which river this one was.  I drove half way across the state and due to the rain saw very little photo opportunities.

Arizona stuff

About 22 days ago, in the state of Arizona, along Interstate 10, on the way to New Mexico.

The major drawback to traveling on the interstates, is there are so few photo opportunities.

These were taken somewhere between Eloy, Arizona and Lordsburg , New Mexico.

Usually when some one travels through that area they take lots of picture of the Saguaro cactus nation parks  areas and ignore the more humdrum areas.  I though a little humdrum would be good for my viewers.  A nice well rounded view of entire state is what I want to show.
